SAT

The SAT is a standardized test generally used for college entries in the United States. The SAT is completely owned, developed, and published by the College Board in the United States. OET

The English language test for healthcare professionals is the Occupational English Test (also known as OET). It tests the language communication skills of healthcare professionals who choose to register and train in an English-speaking environment.

For the following 12 occupations, OET is available: dentistry, dietetics, medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, optometry, pharmacy, physiotherapy, podiatry, radiography, speech pathology and veterinary science. With a focus on communication in medical and health professional contexts, OET offers a valid and accurate evaluation of all four language skills, including listening, reading, writing and speaking.

Four sub-tests compose the OET:

Listening

Candidates are expected to show that a variety of health-related spoken materials, such as patient consultations and lectures, can be followed and understood.

Reading

Candidates are expected to show that on health-related subjects they can read and understand various types of text.

Writing

Writing a letter, usually a referral letter, is the task here. Often a different type of letter is required , particularly for certain professions: for example, a letter of transfer or discharge, or a letter to advise or notify a patient, caregiver, or community.

Speaking

The Speaking sub-test is conducted separately and the applicant takes part in two role-plays. The applicant takes his or her professional role in each role-play (for example, as a nurse or as a pharmacist) while the interlocutor plays a patient, a client, or a relative or carer of a patient. In veterinary science, the owner or caretaker of the animal is the interlocutor.

TQUK Level

The TQUK Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF)  is an introductory teaching certification based on skills that can be carried out by people who are not yet in a teaching capacity or are already teaching. There is a minimum prerequisite, however, to engage in microteaching. Microteaching is an activity in which trainee teachers plan and offer to their peers a brief teaching and learning session and then assess their practise.
